La Rochelle Aquarium

On New Year’s Eve, we visited La Rochelle Aquarium — just a 10-minute drive from our guesthouse. It’s right opposite the old harbour in the heart of the city. Allow around 2 hours for the full visit. The route takes you through a series of rooms organised by the world’s seas and oceans, starting with local species from the Charente-Maritime coastline and intertidal zone.

We’d especially recommend finishing your visit on the top-floor terrace, which offers a stunning view over La Rochelle.
